This is just not like anything else anywhere.
Getting there is a bit of a mission, but it adds to the adventure. This is not heap, and it is not luxury, but you do get a lifetime's wonderful memories crammed into what is little more than a weekend.
The first tip is to book one of the ice suites and not a standard ice room. Second, when you get there and as soon as your luggage is out of your hands, go and explore the suites in the ice hotel. You can then make a note of your favorites and go back to the reception and ask to be allocated one in particular. When we went not many had been pre-booked.
The whole experience is just fantastic. My Swedish friends laugh at how much it costs to travel with the huskies or to go on a snowmobile safari, but when else can you do it. So save your pennies and don't hold back on anything because this is a once in a lifetime kind of place. We were the only ones to try ice sculpting and yet it was a fabulous because of he 'behind the scenes tour' and the engaging sculpture teacher.
The chalets are warm and functional and you can easily spend a day exploring the local area.
The ice hotel itself is unbelievable and defies explanation. If the thought vaguely interests you, then go and see for yourself. I guess everyone else will talk about the changing rooms and the sleeping bag stuff, but suffice to say that the icehotel is quite warm when the outside is 5 degrees less and a fierce wind is blowing.
The staff are great, and when you reaiize exactly where you are, they do very well to get so many helpful, professional people working there.
Just go.
